Legend of the Dark Messiah is considered "fantasy" and "indie fiction" but what does all of this mean? To help prospective readers cut to the chase, here are 24 things you will and will not find in the book:


Fantasy elements? Yes

Goblins? No

Magic? Yes

Dwarves? No. In fact, let's stick with humans and their demons for the most part.

Supernatural forces? Yes

References to Dungeons and Dragons? No

Sorcerers? Yes

Medieval setting? No

Urban setting? Yes

Cities from our world? No

Modern? Yes

So...Vampire vs. Werewolves? No

What about strange technology? Yes

Is it science fiction? No, the gadgets are not what this story is about.

Heroine? Yes. Her name is Cassidy.

A damsel in distress? No

So she's a strong lead? Yes

So she must be an apathetic/depressed hero? No, quite the opposite.

What about Romance? Not the dominant theme but the characters welcome it. Wouldn't you?

Magical Realism? Yes

Okay, so do most people in this world know magic? No, but most of the elites do.

Dramatic Irony? Yes

Religious? No, despite the awkward title.

Will I have trouble putting down the book? Yes


With that said, revealing this world to mainstream publishers was an unforgettable experience given that my answer was rarely Yes twice in a row.
